Taylor Swift was like a politican campaigning for an Oscar at New York ‘Toy Story 5’ screening
Taylor Swift is clearly not leaving anything to chance when it comes to her Hollywood ambitions! The global superstar has seemingly entered full campaign mode as she continues making her case for a possible Academy Award nomination, and her latest appearance at a special New York screening of Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 has attracted plenty of attention.
The singer, who is already one of the biggest names in the music industry, appears to have her eyes set on another major achievement: winning her first-ever Oscar. And judging by her recent appearance, she is more than willing to put in the work.
On November 1, Taylor attended a special screening and question-and-answer session for Toy Story 5 at Disney’s Manhattan offices. Rather than simply making an appearance, taking a few photographs and leaving, the superstar reportedly spent considerable time interacting with guests, answering questions and connecting with people in attendance.
In fact, her approach had some observers comparing her to a politician campaigning for votes ahead of an important election. 😂
And honestly, the comparison is entertaining!
Taylor reportedly stayed long after the screening, greeting attendees, signing autographs, posing for selfies and warmly interacting with children. She even made time for journalists and other industry guests.
New York writer Michael Musto shared his positive experience after meeting the singer, revealing that Taylor complimented his sweater. He also praised her friendliness, describing her as exceptionally sweet.
But behind all the smiles, photographs and charming conversations is a serious awards-season ambition.
Taylor is hoping to secure a nomination in the Best Original Song category for her contribution to Toy Story 5, titled “I Knew It, I Knew You.” The song was written and produced by Taylor alongside her longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff.
The track was inspired by Jessie, the beloved cowgirl character whose emotional journey continues in the fifth installment of the animated franchise.
Interestingly, Taylor’s connection to the project goes beyond simply being hired to contribute a soundtrack. She has previously spoken about growing up watching Toy Story and how meaningful it was to finally write music for characters she had loved since childhood.
Director Andrew Stanton has also expressed enthusiasm about her involvement, explaining that her understanding of Jessie’s character made her contribution particularly meaningful.
During the New York Q&A, Taylor also shared a hilarious personal story about her longtime childhood friend Abigail Anderson.
The two reportedly developed a strange but entertaining habit of speaking to each other using impressions from the comedy film Napoleon Dynamite. What makes the story even funnier is that they have continued doing it into adulthood, meaning their husbands, including Taylor’s husband Travis Kelce, have to tolerate their unusual conversations!
It was another reminder that beneath the glamorous outfits, sold-out stadiums and worldwide fame, Taylor still enjoys the silly traditions she developed with her closest friends.
However, her Oscar ambitions remain the bigger talking point.
Over the past few months, Taylor has continued bringing attention to her Toy Story 5 contribution through performances and appearances connected to the awards season. Her recent Academy Museum Gala performance also helped keep the song in the conversation.
Whether these efforts will translate into an Oscar nomination remains to be seen. The 2027 Academy Award nominations are scheduled to be announced on January 21, 2027.
One thing is certain: Taylor Swift knows how to command attention, whether she is performing in front of thousands of fans or charming a room full of entertainment industry professionals.
But what do you think? Is Taylor genuinely on her way to becoming an Oscar-winning songwriter, or is Hollywood witnessing one of the most talked-about awards campaigns of the season?
Because if enthusiasm, persistence and a little political-style networking count for anything, Taylor certainly appears determined to get her moment on that Oscar stage! 😂🏆
