Swiatek’s Taylor Swift confession: Eras Tour disrupted her Wimbledon preparations
Iga Swiatek, the world’s number one tennis player, recently shared her exhilaration after attending Taylor Swift’sEras Tour in Liverpool.
The concert, held at Anfield football stadium, left the five-time Grand Slam champion starstruck and thrilled, but it also had an unexpected impact on her pre-Wimbledon routine.
Swiatek, who is gearing up to capture her first Wimbledon title, revealed how the experience of seeing the pop music icon live kept her up all night with excitement.
“It was amazing. I actually was thinking about going here for the second time. My team was like, ‘Okay…’ Basically after this concert, like three days after I was so excited I couldn’t sleep and everything,”Swiatek recounted with a smile.
Despite the sleepless nights, Swiatek was beaming with joy as she described the concert as a “great experience.”
She humorously noted that if not for her team’s intervention, she might have attended another show, further disrupting her preparations for the prestigious tournament.
“We decided it’s better to focus on the tournament,” she added, underscoring her commitment to her Wimbledon aspirations.
During a press conference for the Madrid Open in April, she jokingly attempted to secure concert tickets through Swift’s agent, highlighting her admiration for the singer.
The tennis champ’s love for Swift reached new heights when she received a handwritten note from Swift, congratulating her on her recent victory at Roland Garros.
The heartfelt message added a personal touch to an already unforgettable experience for the tennis star.
The Polish tennis player has had a stellar season on clay courts, winning titles in Madrid, Rome, and her fourth Roland Garros title last month.
However, she acknowledges that grass remains a challenging surface for her, despite her previous success at the junior level.
Swiatek’s focus now shifts to Wimbledon, where she aims to improve on her best performance of reaching the quarterfinals.
The top seed is on a 19-match winning streak and will open the tournament with a rematch against Sofia Kenin.
She also faces potential challenges from former champions such as Angelique Kerber and Jelena Ostapenko in the early rounds, and defending champion Marketa Vondrousova in the quarterfinals.
Swiatek’s first-round match at Wimbledon 2024 against Kenin is scheduled for Tuesday, July 2nd.
