NFL Explains Reason Behind Nick Bosa’s Severe Punishment After The 49ers Superstar Flashed His MAGA Hat On Live TV
Nick Bosa has received a fine from the NFL for his recent political stunt, not that he’ll mind as he’s gotten the result he wanted.
The 49ers’ defensive end flashed his MAGA hat on live TV during a postgame interview after helping his team beat the Cowboys late last month. He was fined two weeks later, with the league set to dock him $11,255.
The NFL has explained the reason for Bosa’s punishment, with NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero pointing out that the DE was in contravention of Rule 5, Section 4, Article 8 of its rulebook, which states that “throughout the period on gameday that a player is visible to the stadium and television audience, players are prohibited from wearing, displaying or otherwise conveying personal messages either in writing or illustration, unless such message has been approved in advance by the League office.”
An NFL executive had discussed avoiding political controversy before the start of the season.
“We’re trying to be very, very, very intentional about being unifying during a polarizing time in our country,” they told CBS Sports. “Have football be something people can rally around no matter what’s going on. We did that during COVID. We’re hoping this can be a positive force in people.”
It appears Bosa wasn’t moved.
He doesn’t regret the decision or the fine.
“I don’t think my position on speaking about it is going to change,” he said after Donald Trump won the presidential elections last week. “Clearly, the nation spoke and we got what we got.”
