It does not take much for Maple Leafs fans to get excited when they see their new captain Auston Matthews in action, however, things went up a notch in Toronto when a post showed the superstar with the face of the NHL, Connor McDavid, together on the ice.
As the offseason unfolds and nears its end, Matthews and McDavid have been training hard ahead of the 2024-25 campaign and this week, it led to the pair of superstars training together for the first time ever as they stepped on the ice as a unit in Germany.
It all started with a picture on Instagram of both Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid, courtesy of Christopher Kolarz who plays for Red Bull in the DEL. The three players seem to be training in the SAP Garden arena in Munich.
The NHL stars were also filmed on the ice together working on passing and skating drills.
As soon as the video hit the web waves, it went viral with most Maple Leafs fans dreaming of the possibility, the ultimate dream, of getting McDavid in Toronto via a blockbuster trade or an epic free agency signing.
However, that dream seems even more far fetched now especially with the Oilers reaching the Stanley Cup Final this past June and looking to get there again in 2025 with a more positive outcome.
As for Matthews and the Maple Leafs, it can only be good news to see the new captain training with the best player in the game at this time. He could get some special advice in order to push Toronto further in the playoff picture.
