“It was the end of an era. This is got to be the last one”- Simone Biles sister hopes Paris Olympics was gymnast’s last appearance
Simone Biles was impressive at the 2024 Paris Olympics and her sister Adria Biles hopes they were her last Olympic Games appearance. The global show in the French capital was Biles’ third appearance on the Olympic stage.
At the Paris Olympics, Biles claimed three gold medals in the women’s team all-around, women’s individual all-around and the vault routine. She claimed a silver medal in the women’s floor exercise and finished fifth on the balance beam. Her sister Adria was out to cheer Biles in her bid to make history, which she sure did, becoming the most decorated American gymnast with 11 Olympic medals, seven of which are gold. She has two silvers and two bronze medals
In an interview on “The Chris Osmond Show,” Adria shared that she always loves watching Simone Biles compete but emphasized that she needs to have a rest and engage in other activities she enjoys. However, she was quick to note that if Simone would love to continue competing, she would rally behind her fully.
“I think, cause this is like the third time round … I think this time, it almost felt like not real cause it was like the end of an era, so like yeah you are trying to enjoy the moment but every beam routine she did I was like, this got to be the last one,” Adria said.
“It was kind of hard for me to come to terms with it cause I always love watching my sister compete so I was like yeah, I’m never going to see her compete again.”
But it was surreal, Paris is amazing and beautiful. The people are great, it was something that I can’t explain. It was amazing. I hope so, cause I know how much she loves her husband and loves watching him play and I hope she can just enjoy that and like take a break that she deserves.
“She loves to travel so I hope that she can do that. If she’s not done, then I guess I’ll be back in the stands and if she is done, I mean, job well done,” she added.
Making her debut at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Simone Biles won gold medals in the women’s team event, the individual all-around, vault routine and floor exercise.
She won a bronze competing on the balance beam. In Tokyo, Biles claimed silver in the women’s team event and a bronze on the balance beam before pulling out of the Games, citing mental health struggles.
Speaking on “The Chris Osmond Show,” Adria noted that growing up around Biles pushed her to embrace gymnastics.
“So, she started, at like five, six or seven and then I started probably around the same time and I only wanted to do it because she wanted to do it. Like I was obsessed with my sister… still, I am cause we are best friends. But, I only wanted to do it because she wanted to do it,” she said. (2:53)
