I knew I was not done — Simone Biles bullish after securing Paris 2024 Olympics slot
Simone Biles declared that she was not done after securing her place at the Paris games following the US Olympic trials that took place on Sunday in Minneapolis.
The 27-year-old is widely regarded as one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, an accolade she has very much earned given her dominant performance at the Rio 2016 games, in which she won four gold medals.
However, she failed to replicate that form five years later at the Tokyo Olympics as she suffered from mental block ‘twisties’ which severely affected her performance. She only managed silver and bronze medals in two events and had to withdraw from others, citing a desire to prioritise her mental health—a polarising decision at the time, attracting both support and backlash
Biles is ready to compete again, and after cementing her place at the next Olympics with an all-around score of 117.225 in two days of competing, she bullishly declared that she knew she had more in her.
“I knew I wasn’t done after the performances in Tokyo,” Biles said, per the BBC. “I just had to get back in the gym, work hard and trust the process. I knew I would be back.”
Biles will be competing in the women’s gymnastics events at the Olympics, which are scheduled to run between July 28 and August 10. She, along with Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, Hezly Rivera and Sunisa Lee will represent Team USA. Joscelyn Roberson and Leanne Wong are said to be travelling with them as alternatives.
