Fans keeping tabs on Oilers superstars’ engagement and wedding plans
Love is in the air. With McDavid’s wedding around the corner and Draisaitl announcing he’s engaged, fans are keeping a close eye on the dynamic duos lives.
The St. Joesph’s Cathedral Basilica is the famous Edmonton church where Wayne Gretzky got married. And while Connor McDavid isn’t getting married in Edmonton like the former great, fans in the city are keeping tabs on the superstar’s big day.
“I think it’s pretty cool to watch! Especially Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, two of the best players in the world,” said one Edmonton hockey fan.
For majority of the year, Edmonton is a hockey city.We watch the games, talk about what happened and hope for the Stanley Cup. But during the summer months, the players are celebrities on a different level.
Fans keep track of the players, and their personal lives.
“A family member had posted it and I was intrigued so I read it. Kinda zoomed in on the menu and stuff like that. It was very interesting,” said one Edmontonian.
This week, McDavid’s fiance Lauren Kyle posted pictures of their food tasting for their wedding, which also included the menu
Edmonton to find out how fancy their wedding is going to be, based on the menu.
“If they did everything on that menu and knowing the service behind it, it could be upwards of $500 per person,” explained Sarah Valencia, a wedding planner with Our Jonrah Events.
McDavid is getting married in Ontario. A celebrity wedding is rare in Edmonton — Gretzky’s was more than 35 years ago. It’s a spectacle, and often spectactular.
“I think it changes the narrative of what weddings can be. Not just the personalization, but obviously they’ll incorporate their favourite foods. People might think ‘Oh I don’t need to go with this menu, I can custom create’,” said Valencia.
McDavid isn’t the only one making wedding waves. Leon Draisaitl announced online Thursday that he and his long-time girlfriend, actress Celeste Desjardins, are engaged.
