CELEBRITIES
End of an era’ for royal Christmas as Kate Middleton AND Queen Camilla lead way for… details below π±
Royal Christmases at Sandringham are steeped in tradition. Each year, the family gathers at the Norfolk estate to exchange presents and enjoy party games.
Each one will look similar to the last but there have been subtle changes over the years. And the Christmas celebrations continue to evolve as a younger cohort of royals emerge.
Princess Kate’s dislike for exchanging gifts on Christmas Eve is well known. But the whole shape of royal Christmases could be about to change thanks to the Princess of Wales, who also has allies in Prince William and Queen Camilla.
Going to Sandringham could become a ghost of Christmas past with members of the family preferring to enjoy the holidays elsewhere, it has been claimed. The Ephraim Hardcastle column in the Daily Mail speculates that this year’s royal walk to church could be the “end of an era” as the royals increasingly look to spend Christmas apart.
The well-connected column states that both Prince William and Kate would “prefer a more informal Christmas” and want to start alternating between William and Kate’s families. We previously told that the Waleses had been planning to enjoy a more “middle class” Christmas in contrast to Sandringham’s stuffy formality.
Queen Camilla also enjoys hosting her own family at her Wiltshire estate and “beats a hasty retreat” from Sandringham, although her son Tom Parker Bowles is attending Sandringham this year. Even King Charles heads to Birkhall after the Boxing Day shoot in stark contrast to his mother who enjoyed an extended stay at Sandringham over the festive season.
King Charles has already proven himself happy to break royal tradition. It was confirmed on Monday that he had filmed his Christmas Day message at Fitzrovia Chapel in London rather than at a royal site.
