The tennis tournaments at the Paris Olympics continue with 14 women’s singles matches on Sunday. The quest for Gold features some of the top players in the sport. As always, we here at LastWordOnTennis will predict all matches for you. We split the 14 matches into four articles. The other articles feature Barbora Krejcikova vs Sara Sorribes Tormo, Caroline Wozniacki vs Mayar Sherif and Jessica Pegula vs Viktoriya Golubic. Predicting these matches are Yesh Ginsburg and Jordan Reynolds. Who do you think will move on to Round 2?

We will link to our other Olympic predictions, including doubles, at the bottom of the article. Enjoy!

Paris Olympics Women’s Day 2 Predictions
Maria Lourdes Carle (Argentina) vs Tatjana Maria (Germany)
Yesh
Maria hasn’t done a ton since her Wimbledon semifinal run in 2022, but this is a winnable opening match. I expect the German to take advantage in one of the final big-tournnament chances of her career.
Prediction: Maria in 2

Jordan
These two played less than two weeks ago in Palermo. Lourdes Carle won the final two sets 6-1 to prevail. Maria’s form has really nosedived in the last few months and she may be starting to decline. I am not sure even the inspiration of the Olympics will be enough to help her here.
Prediction: Lourdes Carle in 3

Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) vs Moyuka Uchijima (Japan)
Yesh
Svitolina has looked great in big tournaments recently, only having trouble when she has to face Elena Rybakina. And Uchijima is no Rybakina.
Prediction: Svitolina in 2

Jordan
This will be Svitolina’s first match since she surprisingly parted ways with her coach Raemon Sluiter. The Ukrainian has been solid in all the Grand Slams this year, including this year’s French Open. I struggle to see how Uchijima will be able to live with her intensity on the court.
Prediction: Svitolina in 2

Yesh
Frech played in the Prague final on Friday, going three sets in each of the tournament’s first four rounds. Fatigue might be a serious issue for the Pole.
Prediction: Tomova in 3

Jordan
Frech reached the final in Prague as preparation for the Olympics, but she got hammered by Magda Linette. This match is also the day after that final drubbing. Recovering so soon after against Tomova, who is a decent clay-court player, will be tough.
Prediction: Tomova in 2

Coco Gauff (United States) vs Ajla Tomljanovic (Australia)
Yesh
Coco Gauff was crushed in the French Open semifinals against Iga Swiatek, but other than that it looked like no one could beat her on this court. If that happens again, she’s getting at least Silver. I wouldn’t expect anyone to stop her this early.
Prediction: Gauff in 2

Jordan
Tomljanovic played some decent tennis in Palermo in the lead up to the Olympics. But her level will need to be far higher than seen in Italy to have a chance against the world No. 2. Gauff plays her most consistent tennis on clay and would almost certainly be a French Open champion already if it wasn’t for Iga Swiatek.
Prediction: Gauff in 2
