Following a 6–3 Supreme Court ruling that invalidated major portions of Trump’s federal tariffs as unconstitutional, Pritzker is demanding $1,700 for every household in the state.

That’s the estimated cost of the tariffs — costs Illinois families, farmers, and small businesses were forced to absorb while Trump insisted foreign countries would pay for them.

They didn’t.

According to Pritzker, Illinois residents paid higher prices. Local businesses lost revenue. Agricultural producers were squeezed. And now that the tariffs have been ruled unlawful, he says someone needs to answer for the damage.

The invoice, covering more than 5.1 million Illinois households, is marked “past due — delinquent.”

Pritzker made it clear Illinois isn’t shrugging this off as politics. If the federal government imposed unconstitutional tariffs that cost the state billions, Illinois intends to pursue repayment.

And if Trump refuses to reimburse the people of his state, Pritzker says he’ll take him to court.

For years, Americans were told the trade war was “winning.” But when the legal dust settled, the bill landed squarely on working families.

Now one governor is asking what many won’t:

If policies were illegal — and they cost taxpayers billions — shouldn’t taxpayers get that money back?
