A team like the Edmonton Oilers certainly knows what impact Connor McDavid or a player of his caliber has, but they have a top roster with plenty of stars to keep under contract. That makes it a little harder to throw money at McDavid, whereas a younger and perhaps up-and-coming team could throw him a blank check and give him whatever he wants. That team might be worse, but McDavid is good enough to overcome that and he’d have a lot more financial stability in that scenario
