Washington, D.C. — What started as a bizarre foreign-policy obsession has now exploded into a full-scale constitutional crisis.
Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) has formally called for the invocation of the 25th Amendment to remove President Donald Trump from office, citing what he describes as reckless, dangerous, and destabilizing behavior tied to Trump’s renewed push to acquire Greenland.
The breaking point came after reports surfaced of an alleged private letter Trump sent to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. According to those reports, Trump suggested he no longer felt an “obligation to think purely of peace” regarding Greenland after being passed over for the Nobel Peace Prize — a statement lawmakers say crosses from ego into national security risk.
🔥 “This is not normal. This is not stable leadership,” one Democratic aide said privately.
🔥 “Threatening a NATO ally over a personal grievance is a red line,” another warned.
Lawmakers Sound the Alarm
Markey was soon joined by Rep. Yassamin Ansari and Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove, who echoed the call for action, arguing that Trump’s rhetoric toward a NATO-aligned nation endangers U.S. alliances, global stability, and American safety.
Their argument is blunt:
If a president appears willing to escalate international conflict over personal slights, he may be “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”
That language is not symbolic — it comes straight from Section 4 of the 25th Amendment, a constitutional mechanism that allows the Vice President and a majority of the Cabinet to temporarily strip a president of power.
⚠️ It has never been successfully used in U.S. history.
Until now, it existed mostly as a theoretical safeguard. Suddenly, it’s at the center of Washington’s most serious conversation.
White House Dismisses, Doubles Down
The White House has dismissed the uproar as “political theater”, accusing Democrats of manufacturing outrage ahead of a volatile election cycle. But even as officials attempt to wave off the controversy, the administration has reportedly continued discussing a “hard way” acquisition of Greenland, language that has only intensified fears among diplomats and defense experts.
Behind closed doors, foreign policy veterans are said to be alarmed by the tone — not just the policy.
🧠 “This isn’t about Greenland anymore,” one former NATO official said.
🧠 “It’s about impulse, grievance, and whether the guardrails are holding.”
A Line Crossed?
Supporters insist Trump is merely projecting strength. Critics argue the opposite — that personal resentment is bleeding into geopolitical decision-making with consequences too serious to ignore.
As calls for the 25th Amendment grow louder, one thing is undeniable:
Washington has entered uncharted territory.
👇 Do you believe this warrants invoking the 25th Amendment?
